AkroNScrapper arrested AKRON: Akron police say employees of the U-Haul Store at 1570 Vernon Odom Blvd. got into an altercation with a would-be scrapper.Workers told investigators they discovered a man taking scrap metal from the business around 8:30 a.m. Thursday.Police say when confronted by workers, the man fought with them and tried to run them over with his van.Police say he “dragged one employee across the parking lot.”Police said employees tried to use other vehicles to surround him until officers arrived. When he tried to put the van in reverse, an employee reached in and turned it off. Edward B. Monsour, 44, of Flora Avenue, has been charged with aggravated robbery and felonious assault. Tax creditsAKRON: An Akron project was among 13 awarded tax credits Friday by the Ohio Department of Development.The projects received Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credits to rehabilitate historic buildings in 10 communities across the state. The projects are expected to leverage more than $140 million in private investments and assist in the creation of 1,600 jobs, according to an Ohio Department of Development press release.The Akron project at the historic building at 172 S. Main St. in downtown was awarded $300,596 in tax credits. The total project cost is estimated at $1.3 million. This is one of six long-vacant buildings expected to be converted into retail, restaurant and residential space.Genealogy programAKRON: The Akron-Summit County Public Library will present Discovering Your Ancestors Online from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at the main library in downtown Akron.The program will feature presentations by experts about the many online resources available through the library. However, those making cash payments will be given an invoice and must then take it to the “Treasurer Cashier” area on the third floor to make their payment.Earlier this year, child support agency announced layoffs because of a reduction in federal and state funding.
